How to Rip a Class DVD to Your MAC:

  1. You must have Mac OS X version 1.5 or later. To check which version you have go to “About This Mac” in the Apple menu in the upper left hand corner of your screen.

  2. Download the open source software called “Handbrake”

  3. Download the 64 bit version and open the file.

  4. Drag and drop the Handbrake icon into your Applications folder. The icon is a pineapple and a cocktail.

  5. Insert your class DVD and open Handbrake.

  6. Click on the movie clapper in the upper left labeled “Source”.

  7. Highlight the folder “DVDIRECT...” in the Devices menu and click open.

  8. Handbrake will scan the disk.

  9. Set output to an .mp4 file and click “Start”

  10. If you had multiple takes where your instructor stopped and started, each take can be ripped separately. To chose which and how many take to rip use the “Chapters” drop down menus in the upper right of the main Handbrake screen.

  11. Note: if the 64 bit version will not open correctly, try downloading the 32 bit version for Mac.

How to Erase the Contents of Your DVD–RW.

  1. Open “Disk Utility” which can be found in Macintosh
      HD> Applications> Utilities

  2. Insert your DVD –RW or DVD +RW

  3. Highlight the DVD and click “Erase”.
